KILDARE EVENTS: A Week of Extraordinary Activities at the 34th Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival

There is an extraordinary array of events planned for the 34th Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival which runs from Friday 22nd July to Thursday 28th at Newbridge College.

“There is a full range of activities throughout the festival,” said committee member Morgan McCabe, “We also run a very successful youth program, which has proven invaluable to Year 5 students who have a keen interest in the arts and literature Our main events are; a concert of Irish music featuring legendary traditional musicians Frankie Gavin and Noel Hill on Saturday 23rd July at the Newbridge College Theater at 8pm We also have an evening with Barry McGovern, the world-renowned actor who plays Beckett and Joyce on Wednesday, July 27 at 8 p.m. at the Newbridge College Theater Tickets for both events are available online or at Farrell’s Bookstore in Newbridge.

Mr McCabe also pointed to the art exhibition featuring the Leinster graphics company. There will also be an International Poetry Evening at the Newbridge College Theater on Tuesday July 26 with poetry and poets from around the world from Italy, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, USA, Estonia , Wales, Ireland, Cyprus and many more.

Another highlight of the week was a stroll along the Liffey at 11:30 am on Wednesday 27 July guided by local nature and environment specialist Michael Jacob. This takes place in the linear area of ​​Newbridge Park.
