Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival announces full 2021 Official Selection lineup

– The main program of the festival competition added 11 international premieres and three European premieres

Nineteen films will be screened in competition, including three out of competition, during the Tallinn Black Nights Film FestivalAt 25 yearse– anniversary edition, which will take place from November 12 to 28 in Tallinn and Tartu, Estonia. The full program will be announced in early November.

“When we started the Black Nights Film Festival 25 years ago, we didn’t even have theaters to show our films,” said the festival director. Tiina Lokk. “It is vitally important, in these difficult times for the cultural sector, to ensure that moviegoers continue to visit theaters and have this essential experience. Surely the best way to do that is to show them the best, most provocative and inspiring movies that world cinema has to offer. “

glory, will look at three generations of women struggling to align their interests. The biopic Dear Thomas through Andreas Kleinert will focus on rebellious poet Thomas Brasch as he confronts the authorities, and in his third feature film, What didn’t go well?, Liliana torres introduces herself as the protagonist, embarking on a humorous journey through her exes.

Emre Erdoğdu‘s The list of those who love me will prove that, at least according to the festival’s statement, “even drug traffickers need love and appreciation in their lives”, while Santi Amodeo‘s The good ones depicts a coming-of-age story: “Bipolar glare versus suicidal ideation, reflected through a social media prism.” After that, it’s time to suddenly switch to the 1960s with A place called dignity, located in a notorious municipality in southern Chile, and exploring themes of freedom, control and revolution.

A fog disappearing, Augusto SandinoThe second feature film by, and a Colombian-Czech-Norwegian co-production, will show a man caring for his father, apprehensively awaiting a confrontation with forces beyond his home in the wilderness and a bittersweet farewell to the life he knows. Bolat Kalymbetov‘s Moukagali revolves around a legendary Kazakh poet, struggling with communist authorities and his own addictions, and Alex van Warmerdamthe tenth film of, aptly titled No. 10, will show an actor on the eve of the premiere of a new production, forced into a countdown to his past.
